an emailed review

While the book clubs get organised and reviews start coming through, here's one that was sent into the library via email.

The mark of Athena by Rick Riordan - reviewed by Lola

Can I just say, that from the beginning I was hooked. Literally at first because my little sister, as a prank, put super glue on the front cover, so the minute I picked it up it was stuck to my hands. It took me three days to get it off! There's little sisters for you.

Anyway, back to the book. It's basically about a 16 year old boy called Percy Jackson, and a maybe 5 month younger boy called Jason Grace. The gods have two different sides; Greek and Roman. (Aka, the Greek side of Zeus is well, Zeus, and the Roman side of Zeus is Jupiter). Percy Jackson is a son of Poseidon, and Jason is a son of jupiter who is, like I said before, the Roman side of Zeus, who is the king of the gods, god of sky and lightning etc. There are also two camps, which are specifically designed to keep demigods safe from monsters, which eat demigods and can track them by their scent, so the more powerful they are, the more strong their smell is. (Oh, and demigods are the son or daughter of a god/goddess and a human) One is called Camp Half-Blood, which is the camp for greek demigods which s where Percy Jackson is from, and his girlfriend Annabeth, who is daughter of Athena, Camp Jupiter is a camp for Roman demigods, except they might not all be demigods. They could be a son/daughter, or a grandchild of a demigod. Camp Jupiter is where Jason is from. Hera/Juno, the queen of the gods, the sister and wife of Zeus/Jupiter, took them from their camps, wiped their memories, and put them in the opposite camp. You see, before the Greek gods, (they are mostly Greek) the Titans ruled. They are like huge evil powerful monsters, who only got defeated by demigods and gods working together. The Titans tried to get back in charge, but because demigods and gods were working together, they were defeated. Now there are the giants. Each giant is made to oppose a certain god. Like, the giant made to oppose the god of the sea - Poseidon/ Neptune is called Polybotes. The giants are trying to destroy the gods in a different way. By destroying demigods, then they can kill the gods, because without the demigods they will all die. So, Hera/Juno's plan is to unite both camps, which have been at war for centuries. I will leave you to find out he rest.
