April Reviews from St Kilda

City of Bones: The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, review by Jaxon

It has a little bit of romance in it but not much. It's about a 'mundane,' a human girl called Clary. One day a demon is waiting for her in her house. It's a huge ravener demon, it looks a bit like a caterpillar with poisonous jaws. It attacks her and she manages to kill it and it turns into black acid, but not before it bites her. Because she has been poisoned, she is taken to the Institute's infirmary. There she meets Isobel and Jace, the want to be loved by everybody and then break their hearts guy. There's a mortal cup which can turn people into shadowhunters, -if they survive it. The cup was supposed to be destroyed by Valentine's wife, but was it...

Rated: 5/5 Reallys "Action packed, knives, I loved it."

She has a really weird boyfriend that she's scared of. He needs to call her every five minutes. When Harper disappears, he is their number one suspect...

It's about this girl named Myrtle. She's crazy. Instead of her parents telling her what to do, she tells her parents what to do. When it's her birthday, she wants a Fing. But her parents couldn't find out about Fings, so they go to the library and find a dark cell where there is a book about them. Myrtle and her father go to the forest and find a Fing in a cave...

Rated: 5/5 Reallys "It's a good book, I want to know how the Fing will go in their house!"

Pigs Might Fly by Emily Rodda, Review by Alicia

It's a really boring book. It's about a girl called Rachael, who is sick. Her favourite person draws a picture for her and she is transported to a magical world where pigs can fly. She rides a unicorn to a house. In the house, there is a woman who keeps on thinking she is one of her daughters. She can't go outside because of the bad weather -all the pigs are out flying. She's homesick but she doesn't know how to get back...

Rated: 2/5 Reallys "It's really simple and boring"

The Explorer by Katherine Rundell, Review by Cailey

It's about these people who are on a school trip and end up in the Amazon when their plane crashes. The pilot died in the crash and Connie, Lily, Max, Fred and the children have to find shelter, food and warmth. They find a clearing where roots have been chopped away and some flint. They follow ants to water but when they go swimming they find there are piranhas in the water. Fred remembers a book about an explorer who said you can eat grubs that eat coco beans. They turn them into chocolate pancakes.

Rated: 5/5 Reallys "It's exciting. I'm reading it for the second time"
