The hunger games by Suzanne Collins - reviewed by Jackson

It’s about a girl called Katniss Everdeen & her sister Prim gets entered into the hunger games. Katniss volunteers for her. Basically, there are 12 districts and there’s a boy and a girl from every district and there’s only one winner. You have to kill each other to win. They change the rules so there can be two winners because Peeta is in love with Katniss. Sponsors give money to the mentor to send to the people in the games. It’s a bit gruesome and there’s blood and stuff.

The three doors trilogy by Emily Rodda - reviewed by Jack

It’s about a boy called Rye and a girl called Sonia. They live in a big city called Weld which is surrounded by giant clay walls. No-one can get in or out except over the top of the wall. There are huge beasts called skimmers like gigantic goats with dragon wings and they’ve got really, really, really sharp teeth. The warden, who is the caretaker of Weld, is stupid ‘cos he can’t make good decisions in time. He values looks more than protection, which is also very stupid. The warden sends out a notice to anyone over 18 to go beyond the wall and destroy the enemy who is sending the skimmers. There are three secret doors in a place called 'the chamber of the doors'. There’s a golden door, a silver door and a wooden door. If you liked Deltora Quest you’ll like these books.

Danny the champion of the world by Roald Dahl - reviewed by Olivia

The book’s about a boy who lives in a gypsy caravan with his dad. One night he wakes up and his dad isn’t there and he goes outside. He sees someone coming and he goes towards them. It’s his dad and his dad tells him a secret. And then at the end they put sleeping drugs in raisins and then they give them to pheasants and they take the pheasants to their property and Mr Hazel walks past and says “These are my pheasants” and the dad says “But they’re on my property” and then the pheasants fly away.

Clarice Bean don’t look now by Lauren Child - reviewed by Lola

It’s obviously about a girl called Clarice Bean and her brother and sisters’ names are Kurt, Minal and Marcy. Her best friend’s name is Betty Moody. She is a big fan of Ruby Redfort and she gets tickets to Run Ruby Run and she’s going to take her best friend. She gets very distressed when Betty moves to San Francisco. When Betty’s away, a new girl from Sweden called Clem Hansen starts at their school. Clem seems to be getting all the attention and Clarice gets an invitation to Clem’s party which she never opens. Her friend Carl really, really likes Clem and he ends up breaking his leg for her. Clem loses her rabbit and that’s when Clarice finds that Clem is actually really shy and nice and she likes Ruby Redfort too. It’s a very good book and it has a very dramatic ending…
